Running 16.2:1 Lean, how can i fix this?
Hey all!
I had my car tested for emissions here, and it passed. But the guy noticed that i had a 16.2:1 air/fuel ratio, and he commented on how it was kind of lean.
Is there anything i can to go get it to around 14.0:1 or whatever optimal performance would be?
Thanks!!

If you did not have an SES light come on, then you either have a burnt out SES bulb, an aftermarket eprom, your eprom has been altered OR you sat idling too long while waiting to get tested and you went into Open Loop Mode.
FYI, if you go into Open Loop Mode while prolonged idling (5-10 minutes will do it), the GM ECM automatically makes you run lean. 15.2 to 15.7 are not unusual...16.2 may indicate a weak O2 sensor that is on its way out.

Well, i just spent 1,400 on a "tune up" basically.
The car was idling for quite a while before the test was done though, maybe that was the problem. Oh well, if i can get this stupid laptop battery to charge, ill just make that ALDL-serial interfacing cable, and see what my ECU is shooting out normally.
oh, and the O2 sensor was replaced within the last month too.

Hey Vader!!!
Im not sure, but i was actually thinking about picking up a fuel pressure gauge and connecting it up to the shrader valve so i could check it out. Ill pickup a guage when I have time, and post back to this thread.
Now, when im testing pressure, I should be running the car correct? Should i gas it a bit, to see if there is a fluctuation in pressure?

I was at a carb place here in town (FLINT, MI) and they showed me a Fuel pressure gauge. I noticed that there was a release valve on it so you could dump fuel into a jar. He suggested that If you are in Idle and you press that button, NOTHING should happen to your idle, if it does, even the slightest quibble, your pump is not puting out enough Volume.
So I went to my local Parts store (Murrays) and bought one just like it ($35.00). He was right, run the car in idle, have the gauge installed, push the button, nothing happened.
I don't know why I am telling you this, I just thought you would like to know.
oh, i guess my point is, get a gage with a release valve.

And be damn careful hitting the release button an a running/hot engine. Depedning on the exact shape of the orific, i imagine the fuel must atomize a reasonable amount, enough so that fuel vapor would happily point out any high heat/ignition sources in the area. Just a heads up.
