hp/ tourqe #'s on a stock 1986 trans am?
it is a 305 tpi engine. i read somewhere that the hp was 215hp and somewhere else that it was only 190hp. i think it might be that the 305 4bb carb had 190 and the TPI 305 has 215. is this right? and what are the tourqe #'s?

Oh jeez, not this again...
For the final time (I really wish it was) here it is:
First off, whoever it was that wrote what you read that said it was 215 in 86 was on some sort of crack. There isnt a single piece of documentation to support that.
Actual numbers published by Pontiac mid-86:
HP 205@4400
TQ 270@3200
This number is less than the 85 number (210) due to the peanut cam, and that number in 85 was 5 less than the camaro (215) due to the more restrictive intake, according to GM.
Numbers by rumored 'experts'(who IMO are Camaro experts not Firebird experts):
HP 190@4000
TQ 285@2800
IMO neither one of these is correct. The day someone shows me something from GM listing 190 for a TA, I'll accept it. Until then...
Real numbers:
Take the fact the TA intake DOES suck, and the fact the peanut cam would kill alot more than 5HP (as evidenced by the drop on the 86 Camaros to 190HP) and you end up with 185HP, more than likely at around 4000. I'd say torque is 280@2800. They are mostly numbers out of a hat anyway. Is there some reason in particular you want to know? I own one, and I can tell you if it makes 190 I'd be shocked.

Madmax, eat crow!
My peanut cammed 305 dynoed 157.2 hp @ 4300 and 215.9 @ 3300 rpm torque on a Superflow Chassis Dyno. Corrected it equals 199.0 hp @ 4300 and 268.8 @ 3300 rpm torque. Only mods were TB coolant bypass and a ******* 3" intake mod. My ET drop from 15.92 to 15.62 with these 2 mods alone.
TA's got 190 hp/275 or 285 factory torque ratings.
------------------
86 T/A 5.0 A4 & 2.77 gear
15.62 @ 86 mph
93 Civic 1.6L
13.5 @ 100 mph

What really sucks, is our own board conflicts the numbers that Madmax has provided. Our board lists:
190hp @ 4000
285tq @ 2800
Then again, that same tech article also states that I should have a 2.73 axle, when in fact its a 2.77. What is one to beleave?
As Madmax stated, GM posts 205hp, yet Chilton and Hanyes lists 190hp. Face it, the world will always debate it.

Dynos arent that accurate, and production tolerances can easily account for a minor difference, not to mention, was that with the mods or without?
BTW your 15.9 is very typical of 86's
