My Idle is erradic, i get an SES light and a code 34 and 44.. I am pretty7 sure my MAF is the culprit but they want 350 canadian for one...
1) How can i be sure it is the MAF
2) Is there anyway to bypass the MAF or repair it somehow....

I am really not looking forward to buying a new MAF right now but if I have to is their any recommended????

while the engine is running, disconnect the MAF and the engine should stumble for a second, then start to run smoothly. if it doesnt smooth out with the MAF disconnected, then your problem lies elsewhere. if it is your problem, replace the MAF and the burnoff relays at the same time.

34. Low voltage (high vacuum) at mass air flow sensor
make sure your TPS voltage is within specs,, ifs it not you will get this code.

how old is your o2 sensor,, when i had a code44 my o2 sensor was clogged up, which caused a horrible idle..

check out both of these before you spend any money.

MJD,

Check or replace the MAF power and burnoff control relays before you bolt another MAF on there. They are about $10 (US) each, and are both required to allow the MAF to function correctly:

I have the same problem with my 88 L98. Where exactly is the burnoff and power relays located in my car? Thanks for any info.

...and since you are getting a code 44 to go along with your other code check the air flow duct work from your air cleaner to MAF to Airbox to rubber TB Bellows for tight connections.

The airboxes are notorious for cracking in an almost "invisible way".

Check also your intake manifold bolts (especially 4 middle ones) for proper torque.
