Hey guys, why is it that my speedometer goes up to 145 MPH while the speedlimit is 75?

ya i know, but hey, my needle goes past the 145 mark. at least thats wut my uncle said, i bought the car from him, haven't been able to bring it somehwere to find out for myself

Whats the deal with the 145 speedo's? I hear everyone rave about them. I have a 140 in mine and I never hear anything about them and it seems to be an expensive swap for 5mph. Just a question, I am new to the 3rd Gen. world.

Welcome to the Third Gen. world. Unless you are stuck with an 85MPH speedo or even the 125MPH, waste your money on something that will make your car faster instead.

It really is a 145 mph speedo. If you look there is one more tick mark past the number "140" which represents 145 mph.

 

My Firebird 140 Speedo goes up to only 140, Of course I could make my own and have it go up to 200 if I wanted....

Who here has actually had their car burried past 145 MPH? I always run out of road long before. The fastest I have been up to is only 135 MPH before I had to hammer down on the brakes.

 

I had th old 350 TPI up to 140 or a little past before I ran out of space.

I bought my car from my uncle, hey 'says' he has gotten it past 145, but hes also got 40 miles straight highway between where he lives and works, thats also why the car had 205,000 miles on it.

Well I was on the PA Turnpike and behind me an accident and very little traffic coming threw. There was a Turbo Porsche that pasted me so I hit it and caught up with him at 90 mph. He then saw me behind me and he hit it. Well when I caught up to him he was doing 135mph! I waved "HI" to him as I pasted him, he just sat at 135 mph, and when I was about ten or so car lengths ahead of him I looked at the speedo and it was buried.
It was perfect conditions and no one on the highway and pretty much straight road. But I don't think I would do it again. You look at the road ahead of you as far as possible then glance at your speedometer and then, what was way ahead of you is now right besides you! REAL DANGEROUS!

i have yet to peg the spedometer in this car but i had my RS with the 115 mph speedo peged aginst the trip reset button. this car has been to 140 acidentaly. i was running from a cop. i looked down and and i slowed to 130 for some reason i never saw the cop agian.

Geee...??? let me think??? A Crown Vic vs. a 350TPI F-body . Hmmmm???? How does one manage to get caught anyway? ...ohh yea... 30 other cop cars, helicopters, road blocks, spike strips...etc. Ohh Well....
