What sensor controls the temp gauge and fan
why iam wondering is because neither one is working on mine i have a 85 iroc with the tpi 305 in it, but i just had a newer engine and a tranny put in it, before when i had the old motor in it it over heated but when i got the new engine in it ran fine and didn't over heat (then the tranny went bad) after i got a new tranny put in at a shop the temp gauge dont work, the fan dont work , and it over heats so i dont know what can be the problem. today i put in a new engine coolant temperature sensor it made no different

The sensor in the head on the driver side is for the temp gauge the one on the passenger side is for the cooling fan the small one in the front of the intake is to the computer the larger one is a thermal time switch for the cold start injector hope this helps.

I dont see anything on the driver side head for the temp gauge. but today i got the fan to work, and soon after i took it to get gas in it. when i got done pumping gas i started the ROC back up and i opened the hood to see if everything was ok well it wasn't the wire that goes from the battery to a black connector which i think is the ECM wire was on fire, so i turned the car off and looked at it. (it burnt all the way through) so i had to drive it back home but when i got home it was overheating again and now when i test the fan to see if it works it dont so now what could the problem be sense that wire is burnt through

If that wire comes off the positive cable and goes to a small (about 1/2" diameter) black plastic cylinder with another wire coming out the other end, it is the fusible link sending 12 volts to the cooling fan relay. Sounds like you may have a short somewhere in the cooling fan circuit that is pulling too much current.
