Working on a 383 build, need advice.
I am a total noob when it comes to building a motor. I have 1985 IROC that I'm looking to install a 383 tpi stroker in and I could use some advice. I don't want to spend more than $2500.
As of now, I'm sitting on a bare 350 block, 4 bolt main, pulled out of a 1973 blazer. What is a good stroker kit/rotating assembly that wouldn't be too pricey?
What I have in mind is a HSR intake, EngineQuest cylinder heads #CC200BA (2.02 intake, 1.60 exhaust, 64cc, and they flow 252int/181exh at .5 lift out of the box), along with a 268XFI hydraulic flat tappet cam. I believe the cam specs are 224/231 duration, .520/.515 lift on a 1.6 rocker ratio. Any opinions on this intake, heads, and cam combo going on a 383?
Also, being that my injection system is the original 1985 version and it uses MAF, will it be a problem setting it up to run a 383?

The heads may be a little to small. If you wanted a stroker kit under that amount powerhouse offers a kit around that price, other than that i don't know of anywhere else that cheap.

There is one important point you must know. Chevy has two piece main seals and single piece main seals, The '73 block should be a 2 piece rear main seal block, therefore, you must buy a crank that is made for 2 piece seal block.
Also, you need to decide what compression ratio that you want to run. If you know your chamber size and desired CR, than this will determine the cc reliefs in the top of the pistons. For example, for 64 cc chambers and a targetted CR of 9.9, you will want pistons with -12cc reliefs.
I am looking at Summit Racing catalog, Eagle has several possibilities for you. They are about $825. Check out part # ESP-B13454E000.
BTW: To get a 383 from a 350 block, you bore the block 0.030" over and the crank has a stroke of 3.75".

yeah, look into a eagle cast rotating kit... comes with bearings/rings/pistons/crank/rods etc for anywhere from 750-900 bucks depending on what you get.
thats a place to start. everything else looks ok. not sure of your goals, cam may be a tad small. head flow is adequate for mild 383s so would be a good match with that smaller cam. will be a torque monster with those heads/cam.
The HSR will rev up so you can go up a size on the cam. the heads will be the limiter, still could probly make near 450hp on motor the rest of the car is setup right
your 85 ecm should handle it with a proper tune but most guys like to run newer MAF computers as they are abit more advanced i believe. Atleast tune it with the later years 6E mask or possibly the 32B mask thats in the 87-88 cars i think. i'm not sure what 85-86 got
