Check the MAF wiring connections to the MAF for corrosion and good connection.
Check for tight air connections between Air Filter Cannister to MAF to MAF Airbox to TB Bellows to TB making sure you have no leaks.
Unhook battery for 5 minutes the reconnect and check for codes.
Still have 33, then change the MAF Power Relay located on the firewall near brake booster. 10 bucks. While your at it you probably should change the MAF Burnoff Relay (same part #) and the Fuel Pump Relay.
Repeat battery procedure.
Still code 33 you may need to actually change out your MAF.
While your poking around in there check all vacuum lines to your plenum being careful on hard plastic lines (brittle) not to break them. Check the four middle torx bolts on your intake manifold for proper torque (40~45 lbs.)

Did you get it fixed? I have the exact same problem with my 88 IROC. code 33. Which of the two relays on the firewall is the maf relay? also, is the fuel pump relay located in the same area? Thanks! Jim
