Good Cam Choice???

Have the engine apart due to a blown head gasket. Rebuilding it with a set of RHS heads 180 cc runners and 2.06 / 1.6 valves..... Using a modded LT1 intake setup..... have many different sets of injectors to choose from including 22lb pink top fords... stock LT1's..... GM 28lb..... Ford red top 30 lbs..... will be getting headers eventually..... decided on a Comp Cams camshaft...... .488 intake / .495 exhaust with a 112 center.... dont want anything too wild more like a street strip car..... is this a good cam choice or does someone have something better in mind????

Thanks
Bill

Re: Good Cam Choice???

is the part # 08-501-8

b/c i gotta 305 tpi that i just built and have that cam .. and its a decent cam for a 305 .. but as some have pointed out its slightly bigger than the stock cam with "upgraded ramp rates" ..

i would recomend a bigger one b/c that cam is for "un modified tpi motors" .. but i got trick flow heads, that cam, edelbrock tpi vortec intake, hooker 2055's .. and it runs fine on the stock tune .. and has a slightly noticible idle ..

if you dont want to tune the computer i'd recomend it .. but if your up for a full build .. go bigger ..

Re: Good Cam Choice???

it depends ..

is it a 305, 350, 383 ???

what intake are you going to use ? .. a stock tpi gives up at 4500 (ish) rpm .. and a modded / ported intake gives up around 5400 rpm ..

but if your using a hsr or something aftermarket .. it all changes ..

also .. will your heads handle that lift?

you gotta consider all the mods and make sure they all work WITH each other and not against .. for example if you put a cam that is good up till 6000 rpm together with a tpi intake .. its not gonna work real good ..

try calling the cam company's and telling them what you plan on doing to the motor and they ussually have REALLY good recomendations .. especially lunati and comp ..
