New Headers Hitting Oil Pressure Switch
New Headers Hitting Oil Pressure Switch
I just got a set of Sanderson headers for my L98. The engine is in my S-10 so that's what the headers were made for. The oil pressure switch (or is it the sending unit??) right above the oil filter sticks out of the block too far and hits the collector on the header. How can I get around this problem?

I'm thinking you could relocate it to the rear of the intake manifold on the block(towards the driverside), should be a 1/8th NPI plug there on the block.
Thanks, I'll take a look at that tomorrow. The trouble is I don't have much room between the back of the block and the cab (which isn't on the frame at the moment). I wasn't sure if I could get some type of elbow to point the sensor forward instead of outward.

I don't know how close you currently are, or in what relation the sensor sits and hit the header, but common elbows are 90* and 45*.
I've use 45* elbows off the rear of the block, to a 2 or 3 inch long piece of 1/8th inch pipe (NP) to the oil sensor in order to clear some room for close firewall fits.
In my '57 w/BBC, I'm so close to the firewall, I can't run a large cap HEI, but used the 45 elbow and pipe to clear the firewall.
There's also some specialized fittings for 90* and tight clearances, you'd have to go to a good supply store most likely.

That's what I needed to know...thanks for the info!

We just finished replacing an engine in an S10, and the stock location for the oil pressure switch is right where 8Mike9 describes.
It is mounted on a 90* elbow and points to the passenger side of the truck. It is not a stock elbow, so you may want to go to a boneyard and get one, or pick one up from a GM dealer...
