Smog Pump

I've read the articles and posts about removing the smog pump and decided I want to... a friend will be helping me do it on sunday... I don't expect noticable power gains, but i do want the extra space freed up, less weight on the car, and not have to worry about getting headers and a new cat w/ air fittings.

I've recently heard an argument that the extra o2 that the pump gives to the cat and headers helps stop carbon buildup... any truth to that? I plan on changing the cat within a month to a hi-flow and the headers within the year. Is there any detrimental effect I should expect?

I want to do this, and most likely will on Sunday. just tryin' to get a final survey in. thanks in advance for your opinions.

No it should be fine. I removed my smog equipment and left the factory manifolds and dual cats on for about 6 months before I got headers and high flow cat. You shouldn't have any problems just make sure you keep the holes in the manifolds plugged up.
