WHAT CAN I GET FOR MY '86 Z28 IROC-Z CAMARO TO ADD MORE HORSEPOWER??
This car I have already has the Tuned Port Induction. It is stock with dummy duals and 171 Horses. I know true duals would help. I already know that a Supercharger would help and little stuff that costs little. I am looking for expensive stuff as well as little stuff. Any reply would be nice. Thnx alot.

Wow! thoes headers really made a huge diffrence for you!
How easy were they to install? Did they fit into place with no problems?

Headers are the best way to go. Also free up the intake by moding the airbox and use K&N filters. Then of course you need a real cat back system. DON'T go to true dual, that messes with TPI big time. Read the articles here about suggested TPI mods. Good Luck!

My car has had true dual with H-pipe from the day I got it. Doesn't mess anything up! In fact i'd probably attribute it to a good portion of my cars power. But time for headers, 87iroc where/how did you get your hookers ceramic coated?

Take a look through Summit Racing and Jegs magazines, they sell so many things in there that can help out our cars majorily. I would always start with a good tune up. After that, and doing your free mods, I would start with exhaust. Get a high flow cat-back system from Hooker, Edelbrock or Flowmaster, all are under $300, feature 3" mandrel bent piping, high flow muffler and tips. A high flow catalytic converter, or if you don't have to worry about emissions, have a 3" pipe welded into place where the cat used to be. If you do go with an aftermarket one, the Catco one from Summit is about $100 and is a good improvent. Headers are the LAST thing you want to do to your exhaust. If you have the money, SLPs are the way to go, but if not, the Edelbrock TES headers offer GREAT bang for the buck. Gears are a good improvement next. If you have an automatic, go with a set of 3.42s, if you have a 5 speed, the 3.73s are the way to go.

I read in either CHP or Super Chevy that true dual on a 3rd gen makes the back pressure too low causeing a reduction in low end tourque, which didn't make any sense to me; But I'm no expert. I have to take their word for it. I'll look for the article and post it if I can find it. It was within the past year and those are the only car mags I read so I know its in there somewhere.

Car: '86 IROC, black and sharp
Engine: 305 tpi, bone stock
Transmission: 700r4
Axle/Gears: 3.42 pos w/rear db
My 86 IROC has no mufflers on it (just a straight large diameter pipe from the cat. back to where it splits and exits the rear of the car). The back pressure is so low that anytime I spend more than a few minutes (only takes about 3 to 4 miles) at a steady throttle position the SES light comes on to tell me the EGR valve isn't working correctly. With the 700R4 and 3.42 pos rear end it will turn over those 295-50X16 BFGs fast enough to make the car go sideways. I figure it takes a fair amount of torque to spin those big tires.

is that why that light came on. Zrsbest. i was wondering, it came on twice for me. and it hasnt come on ever again. i have borla and just a gasket where the flow restrictor is so there is no backpressure. its soo loud!
and if you get the chance , PORT THE UPPER END. as much as you can it will give you serious SOTP power, i felt it alot when i ported everything. well maybe i also put on pulleys and stuff..

Well guys, I hate to admit it but I can't find that article. Maybe it was just a dream. Sorry. If I do find it I'll post it somewhere.

sorry i haven't posted earlier.
i got the headers from a buddy in my car club.
they were fairly easy to put on. i don't have the serpentine belt and so i only had to worry about connedting the air conditioner bracket to a header bolt. took a little finageling but was not hard. probably 10hrs of work. the hardest part was getting the stock y-pipe to fit with some welding. the y-pipe sits a little lower but no problems so far.
