CRAP RUNNING TPI

I was driving the 87 iroc last night and she was running great. I pulled into the local hotspot and shut it off. About 1 hour later I started it up to leave and it was idling very low 490-500 rpm. I drove away and it ran ok when I gave it gas but when I let off even at 40mph the rpms plumited to 490-500rpm. I stopped at a light and it continued to idle low and the voltmeter was low also. I put it neutral and revved voltmeter raised to normal level. When I got home i pulled in the garage and the car stalled. I started it again and it stalled out as soon as it kicked over. i waited about 10 minutes and started it again and all was normal. Someone please help. Maybe a idle sensor or TPS sensor, idle control valve. 1987 Iroc-Z 5.7 TPI

i had a somewut simular problem, i didn't tighten the hose clamps that attach the air intake hose to the MAF sensor, it was on but not tight, anyways it caused my car to want to stall and wouldn't respond when i gave it gas until like 50% throttle. did u have any codes?

No codes at all. No check engine lights. I don't know maybe a sensor on its way out or dirty ?

Be sure to NOT trust the SES light. It is just a light bulb that will burn out. My SES bulb was out on my 85 Bird yet it had a code 15 wreaking havoc on my gas mileage.

Use a scanner or verify when you turn your key on that the SES light works.

mine does that too...I think my 85 ecm is just a tempermental unit if you ask me!...my remedy to this is to make sure I get on it prety hard about once a week...heehee...joke a side, I just shut it off, wait 20 sec and then start again and usually it solve the problem...I think it could be a sticky idle sensor.
