Rough engine when warm
Rough engine when warm
Hi to all, I'm new on this board but I've gotten some good info. It's a great site!
I've got a problem with my 89 5.7tpi with an erratic idle after the engine warms up(10-15 mins driving). It also acts like a loss of power under acceleration(feels like 75% left). Coming to a stoplight the engine will die unless I take it out of drive. Aftering letting the engine cool it will run fine again until it warms up....
I have no SES light and the only code that shows is the normal 12 code. I've tried disconnecting the egr, but haven't noticed any real change in performance with the line pulled...
The car has 37k miles on it with an orginal and stock engine and tranny combo. All basic mx has been kept up on it with along with the last fuel filter change 3k ago(I don't think that's the prob). All temps, fans and everything else seem to be working normally.
Any help is appreciated, Thanks!

Get a can of areosol(spray can) GM top enginge cleaner from the dealor. Remove the air ducting in front of the trottle body and set aside, dont forget to disconnect the MAF sensor first before pulling the ducting off. Get a rag and then open the butterflys all the way and spray about 1/8 the can on the TB butterflys, IAC passage, and around the plenum. Let it sit for like 5 mins and come back and spray another 1/8 of the can in there again but this time take the rag and wipe everyting clean and dry . Now with the air ducting still off start the car and work the throttle while you spray the rest of the can into the plenum. Try to keep the car running till its all gone and then quickly turn the engine off. You will see a lot of white smoke comming out the tail pipe while spraying. Now reconnect the air ducting and disconnect the battery for 5 mins to clear the MAF code. After letting it sit for about 20mins restart the car and go for a drive. If it still does the same then you must reset the IAC valve and TPS. It is very easy but you will need a digital volt/ohm meter and someone to help hold the brake. The whole proceedure can be found here: https://www.thirdgen.org/newdesign/tech/tpimod2.shtml
Good Luck!!
