I'm no longer a virgin

Just finished my first plug and wire change on my L98. Including the cap, rotor, and coil, I clocked in at a LIGHTING fast 4 hours . I had the car up on jack stands (Safety is my middle name) and had to get 3 of them from underneath. Ah well, at least I knew what I was getting into.

whew! It's almost three...it's time for a beer.

good job. Really didn't need to change the coil unless your old one was bad.

I guess your almost ready to start swapping heads and cam soon.

Hahaha, if by "using protection" you mean "dropping a socket wrench on the starter and shooting sparks at myself" then yes I did .

I switched out the coil because I bought one of those "Jeg's EZ kits" that came with Cap, Rotor, MSD 8.5mm wires, Accel plugs, and the coil. So convenient! I've only driven it a couple of miles far, but I plan on writing an aftermarket review in a couple of days about it. I've heard mixed reviews about the U-Groove plugs, but they can't be any worse than the AUTOZONE brand plugs that were in there!

...heads and cam are coming soon, but not on this block .

Re: I'm no longer a virgin

All of the plugs can be taken out and put back in topside except #7(if you have small hands). That one has to be taken out and put back in from under the car, unless you have headers, then even it is still a large pain in the ***, but can be accomplished up top.

Re: I'm no longer a virgin

i got hooker 2055's on my 91 camaro ..

had some e3's in it (its a brand new mildly built 305) .. and the e3 suck ***** and got all gummed up and didnt agree with my vortec heads ..

so i changed them out this morning .. and put in some accell shorty u-groove's ..

i highly recomend these plugs if you got headers .. soooooooo easy to put in and take out b/c there almost 1/2" shorter in length ..

but with full size plugs with these headers ... there all easy to take out with a simple wrench except #7/4 .. b/c you cant get the wires off of 4/7 .. but all i did was undo them and "wiggle" them untill i got them out (extremely tight fit) .. but then again i got vortec heads so i dont know if that matters or not with the plug location ..

but if you got headers i'd get the accel shorty u groove's .. b/c they take about 2 seconds a piece to put in .. no trouble at all ...

Re: I'm no longer a virgin

If you keep this car for a long time, you'll get real good at changing the plugs and wires out. I think my first time it took me 5 or 6 hours. Now I can just jack it up and replace the plugs in 15 minutes, all 8. You get good at "seeing" with your hands only! I remember when I first got my 3rd gen and thought how complicated everything looked under the hood. Now they put the battery in the trunk and there is even less room under the hood! LOL!

yep .. took me a while to figure out how to even get at the spark plugs .. and now i can changed them in about (if not less) than 15 minutes ..

lol .. they should have camaro's in nascar and have to change the spark plugs every pit stop .. that would be fun to watch ..

and when i first got mine took me 5 minutes to find the dipstick .. haha .. but once you pull the motor and fully build it .. then you tend to figure out where things are .. lol

how well did those work out for you. did you notice any improvment at all. and where did you get the kit. ive been wanting to upgrade the ingnition a little but dont want to go straight into spending 600 for a complete msn ignition system.

Re: I'm no longer a virgin

I honestly find that summit is normally one of the cheaper places to go for performance stuff, Jegs, and other places are just flat out expensive, maybe even if you want to stay cheaper, use the accel ignitions? cheap still efficiant
