statring issues plus codes need opinions
first off its an 88 5.0 5 speed, well i took my car to a mechanic wich was a rip off cause he said everything checks out and to replace things cause they look old
Anyway my car has been getting harder to start it usually takes about 30 or more seconds of cranking to turn on maybe low voltage at the battery? My igniton moduel checked out fine its on time and a lot has been replaced recently plugs o2 sensor yes it is bosh but i doubt it has anything to do with my problem.
K i noticed when i was going reverse my car sounded like i didnt give it gas so i gave it more than usuall for it to not shut off. I ignored it.
Then it happend again the next day. but the biggist thing was i was driving 80 on the fwy and all of a sudden i started losing power i gave it more gas but no response. it didnt fell like it was electrical it felt more like it was getting less gas. that scared me.then it responded after a couple of seconds and dropping down to 65.
So i open the hood and noticed steam. i had a leak on my radiator right under the mass air flow sensor.
next day went to get a replacement being its a llt warranty and everything seemed fine. Till i went to autozone to get the tps. it truned on like normal long crank time but when i parked it in front of the store to get my battery checked out it started sounding like it was dieing as if i ran out of fuel. then it died. it would then turn on then shut off imediatly. i gave it gas and nothing.towed it home........
Then next day it still wouldnt trun on.... i replaced the fuel filter. It then turned on after five cranks of on then immediatly off again.. it sounds good while on but the computer gave me two codes..
34 mass air flow
22 t.p.s. faulty or missadjusted
the only thing i did to the car was change the coil accell and the wires msd do it yourselfers. wich i swapped back to the original stuff i had on to see if those were the problem they wernt.
Now i have the tps but should i replace the maf being that hot colant was shoting all over the bottom of it where the wires connect????? or the computer i say computer cause my neighbors cat jumped on my car and knocked my breaker bar over connecting the battery posts giving off a nice spark display. So what do you guys think? any help is greatly appreciated thanks...........

I had the 22 code when the tps was set too low. It trips at like .40 tps volts reset tps to .54 volts and no code.
also have sprayed hot coolant on maf ,not in, nothing changed.
hope this will help.

Do a search on tps. There are alot of tests that can be done. or just replace it, sounds like maybe yours is faulty.

Re: statring issues plus codes need opinions
Hey well today i got the car going. I replaced the tps. But the car still gave me a code for it. So i dissconected the battery to clear the codes. Turned on like normal long cranking. but when i drove it and gave it a good rip on the gas, the pedal felt soft it still had power but not as much as before and you couldnt really feel it only by looking at the speedo. So something still felt wrong to me. ANyway instead of going a long distance i went a block and came home shut it off then turned it on again. There it was a new code. It only gave me code 34 this time. and it sounded a little like i had a rough cam in it like an old school musle car. So should i just replace the mass air flow??

Unplug the maf, and drive the car. See what happens. If it runs BETTER, replace the maf.
Another test you can try, is with the engine idling, whack the maf with a screwdriver (handle, not real hard, about like if you were rapping an unruly kid on the head with a ruler) and see what happens. If the engine stumbles, bad maf....

ok ill have to try the screwdriver trick. But i wont be able to do it for a couple of months cause im out of state doing training. Anyway i just got a laptop so i think im gonna look into some programs to see how i can monitor the engine and relays etc. instead of paying mechanics to give me false diagnostics and instead of throwing parts at it. i think it was tuner pro or cat i dont remember if anyone has some good program suggestions im all ears mean while ill do a search and see what comes up. ill keep you guys posted when i do get around to it.

Unplugging the MAF is a good idea.
I'll also offer another sugestion, could be a fuelpump relay problem, could be the FP Relay isn't working, so now you're relying on the oilpump to get enough pressure to energize the fuel pump...then build pressure in the fuel line to fire the engine.
When you turn the key on, do you hear the fuel pump prime for 2 seconds?
If not, start easy and replace/test the FP relay.

hey thanks for your reply but yeah i replaced the fuel pump relay a few months back. I also listend to the fuel pump make its noise when the turn the key. It seems to be working fine ill check the fuel pressure when i get home. but im just gonna get a program to let me know if all my sensors are in range.
