WHAT'S A NINTH INJECTOR GOOD FOR ANYWAY?!

I JUST GOT THIS 1986 TPI SETUP AND IT HAS A 9TH INJECTOR -- WHAT THE HELL IS A 9TH INJECTOR?! DO I NEED THE THING, IT SEEMS LIKE ITS MORE TROUBLE THAN ITS WORTH.

ALSO, CAN I USE A 1987 AND UP DISTRIBUTOR WITH AN EXTERNALLY MOUNTED COIL WITH THE 1986 TPI SYSTEM OR ARE THEY THE SAME ANY WAY (I'M NOT SURE, MY UNIT IS IN PIECES)?

In the earlier systems, the 9th injector is the cold start injector. Later, they just added extra fuel to the chip during cold starts, and eliminated the extra injector. You can buy pass it though.
