Please explain some parts of the TPI setup
I just received my TPI system from a 91 Transam to put on my new engine...I have a few questions. First, I recieved the tpi setup, computer, wiring harness, most of the sensors.....I was looking at the harness...and most of the stuff is labeled..but there are a couple of wires just hanging out not doing anything...the one that stood out the most was a white wiring with all the wires of the starter and I think temperature sensor (label said knock sensor...but the knock sensor is on the other side isnt it??) And the end is bare...like it was cut..any ideas what its for? Second...what is the big black hollow box looking thing with what looks like grease inside...but i actually think it may be padding of some sort...i THINK its the connector to the ALDL......does some of the engine wiring harness go over to the drivers side (besides the relays). Next....what does the EGR valve plug into? I saw the nipple on it for a hose to connect to it..but what hose...and where to...and last...at the front passenger side of the intake manifold (next to the coolant neck) there is a big screw screwed into the manifold with a clamp looking thing....what is this for? Thanks

That is the knock sensor, it's on the pass. side right above the starter.
that is the firewall connector. It goes into the firewall and has things the ALDL stuff fuse box wires and ignition, along with other stuff.
that goes to one of the vacum ports on the pass. side of the plenum via a solinoid that has 2 vacum fittings on it, it should be around the coil wires sice they are mounted together.
couldn't tell you, might be for the wiring harness that goes down to the starter. keep that bolt in there as I think it goes into a collen passage.
There is a great article about alot of this stuff in the tech section. Read the TBI- SD TPI swap. Although the swap thing doesn't apply it tells you how to assemble the TPI intake system.
Hope this helps. good luck.

I tried taking some pictures...but all I have is a crappy Quickcam...and they came out horribly....but close to the water neck, and RIGHT in front of the front passenger side injectors...after the first two passenger front side manifold bolt holes(the ones that screw into the heads)...there is a bolt that is screwed into the manifold...with a peice of metal between the bolt and the manifold...and the metal is folded in a such a way that it looks like it was used to hold a hose or something (folded like a clamp...in a loop) Now I looked at the underside of the manifold...and it kinda looks that it may have just been drilled in there (not from the factory) is there something there...or was it something the previous owner did?

That bolt hole is for an alternator brace. Not everyone got a brace there, GM was also using an alternator brace to the exhause manifold too. Either one or the other, I never seen both. I would't worry about it, the metel strap you discribed was probally added by a privous owner.
BTW, the brace to the intake has been discontinued.
