I was reading in a HPP engine guide special issue that the adding of a conical air filter to the end of the air intake bellows and junking the air box altogether yeilded a .3 off the 1/4 mile time. But someone else told me that it can get totally soaked when you have to drive in the rain seeing as how there's nothing surrounding it. Anyone else done this and what results did you get??

 

I put one on my TTA and it didn't make much difference as far as I could tell. I wouldn't worry too much about it getting wet as long as you are just sticking it into the cutout on the inside of the fender.

I've done it my car about 8 years ago, and while there may be some bugs etc caught in the element, it works just fine. And this is when I lived on the Westcoast of Canada which gets some of the heaviest rains in North America.

As for performance gains, don't believe all those magazine articles.
