Cold start injector

Someone butchered my '88 IROC before I got it. As near as I can tell, the TPI came from an '87 305. After flushing the coolant, all the temp sensors died. The only one I haven't gotten my mitts on is the one that controls the CSI. Could I just get a chip from an '88 and not use the extra injector?

No. As far as I know you would need a chip for a 89. My car is a 89 and it does not have the cold start injector. You would also need the vats turned off on the 89 chip. I think the cut off year is 88 (last year for the cold start injector).

Just out of curiousity, what leads you to believe that the TPI came from an 87 donor car? The only reason I ask is because there is no difference between the 87 and 88 TPI units.

And Aaron is correct.

I was under the (perhaps mistaken) impression that '88 was the year they swapped to the serpentine drive belt, centerbolt valve covers, roller cams, and did away with the CSI. Aside from the CSI, I don't have any of these things. The numbers on the block place it as an '83 305. My VIN calls for a 350. The rear disc setup is gone ( I'm working on replacing the drums), and the wiring was appently hacked together by lower primates. But I still LOVE the car, it just needs alot of TLC.

Ah, I see...the 87 and 88 will both have the same TPI unit, centerbolt heads, roller cam, and cold start injector. But only the 88-up will have the serpentine belt setup.
