May have found my problem...!!!
After a year of tearing down and rebuilding over and over again, I think I might have found one of my major problems.
Last year I parked my Z due to the ellusive stumbling problem. Tore it down and spent the next year upgrading and tweaking all those little bugs. A couple weeks ago I got it running, but promptly blew an injector O ring and starting a quick gas fire! I got the fire out quick, with little or no damage. But the fire forced me to check all the electrical stuff.
So after all this, I finally got the motor running again, but it was worse than last year! Even when i got it timmed, set the FP and all that stuff, it ran like sh*t.
I spent the last couple days reading throught the board looking for answers and I think I found it?! During all this mayhem, the factory tach stopped working and I blew it off as a bad wire or the Holley ign. module I used. But a post I read in the archives said something about the pickup coil....hmmmmm...something I never even thoght about. Low and behold, I just pulled the dist. and took the pickup coil off. The windings are covered with a sand like corrosion and the wire leads look to have that heat carmel all over them.
I am going to buy a coil tomorrow and see it that was the problem. I have a feeling that I may have gone through a year a questions and frustration for a $4.00 part!
Well, wish me luck fellow thirdgeners'!!
