TBI to TPI now no injector pulse HELP!!!!
TBI to TPI now no injector pulse HELP!!!!
I pulled out my TPI 305 from my 91 Z28 and transplanted it into an S10. The S10 was originaly TBI so I followed the TBI-TPI swap tech article. I swapped it over to a 730 ecm and I am using the same memcal I had in the Z. I am good at wiring and I took my time changing pins. I even double checked every pin after I swapped. It is all hooked up now and all I get out of it is spark, no fuel injector pulse. When I check the voltage at each injector plug I get battery voltage on both sides when the key is on. I have disabled VATS in the chip so that is not an issue, I have checked all the fuses and they are good, grounds look cool too. I manually gounded the injectors and the thing ran. I am out of ideas. Maybe someone here is thinking of something I am not.
I asked this over in the engine swap forum but maybe someone here has an idea.

If you said you manually grounded the injectors I would look at the injector ground a tthe ECM .. I do believe they ground through it ? Maybe it was a repin error even though you double checked - Just a thought

I forgot to mention, when I am cranking it I get no engine speed (rpm) or injector pulse width readings through the ALDL using tunerpro. Is this normal?
I suspect maybe it was a module thing, then I checked the 4-wire module connector to ecm pins and everything checked out. This is the same module that was running in the car previously.

I think that the injector pulse comes from the electronics in the distributor. Therefore, you need the same dizzy that was in your car, in your S10. Also, I thought that I read that the injectors are always hot on the positive side and are grounded out to fire.

Right...its the same exact dist. that was on it when it was in the Z.
And yes the injectors are grounded out to open. Thats why the thing ran when I grounded them out manually.

The ECM pulses the injectors by switching ground with the injector drivers. there should be 12 volts on the injectors at all times when the key is switched on, I would make sure the ECM is grounded properly.
