first things first!!it needs to be able to breathe!!!!!!!if it's got a stock air filter set up get rid of it.make your own free flowing air intake

you didn't say if it was a MAF or SD setup. If its a SD system them the stock air box will flow just fine with the removal of the plastic shield things. Then thow a couple K&N filters in there and your set. The first major mod I would do is headers (SLP or Edelbrocks), 3" catback, and a high flow cat(or strait pipe if you don't have to deal with emmisions.). Once you have done that then you can start on the intake. New AZS&M semi siameassed runners, Base, and ported plenum. By this time you are going to want a 52 mm TB (I would suggest Holley). That should give you a good start. The exhaust stuff is anywhere from $600-$1000 depending on what you get, the intake is a litle more. that will cost you around $1200. This is for parts alone, assuming you are going to install them yourself.

camaro is completely right EXHAUST all the way. I would say for the first thing is get a nice 3" cat back exhaust (dynomax, edelbrock, flowmaster, magna flo, etc) then if you have to deal with emissions go for a nice flowing 3" cat and slp headers 1 3/4". Then yea go and port your runners, lower intake, and plenum that is free then when you have money go and buy either slp runners or AS&M runners. Once that is done come back and we can help you from that point.

I'll third going with headers first. Most often a nice gain for a decent price.

Start with all the free/cheap mods for TPI listed at the front of the site. Forget about moving the MAT sensor - it does nothing to control fuel mixture.

Do as the Bandit says - open up the lungs a bit, starting with the air cleaner housing. Cost - free.

Pull that just-installed plenum back off and open the throttle area to eliminate the restriction from the EGR ports. Gasket match the runners to the plenum openings while you're at it. $30.00 in gaskets and grinding burrs.

Install a 180°F thermostat and fan control for about $40.00.

Convert your FPR to an adjustable type for about 50¢ in parts.

If you can find a used throttle body airfoil for less than $15.00, install one. The jury is out on this, but it seems to help induction at moderate and high throttle angles. They aren't worth the $45.00 + price that you would pay for a new one, but a used airfoil it worth a try.

Try the throttle body coolant bypass - $2.75 for a hose barb and clamps.

I completely agree with Vader on this point for a MAF car. However, for SD cars, they DO alter the fuel mixture. BUT, unless you adjust the "correction tables" in the Eprom to recognize the fact that your MAT is now getting a colder reading and measuring the incoming air temperature, the "fuel correction" will be incorrect and you will tend to be overly rich.
