Running 195 stat - PROM tuned for 180. ???
Guys,
Had some cooling issues about two years ago, flushed and cleaned the cooling system, and ever since, it's been running really cool. I know the CT gauge isn't really a exact high tech device, but it appeared to never really get over 180-190, and this was with a 180 stat. This seamed OK, and I didn't really question it. Well I just replaced the CTS this weekend, and it's now reading no warmer than about 160. Even when running the car hard, it won't budge more than a degree or two, and then it quickly cools back down.
Would I notice any definite symptoms of the not ever going into a closed loop mode? Should I try a 195 stat? Should I not worry too much about what the stock OE gauge says and not worry about it?

Borrow a mechanical temp gauge from Bryan
He seems to have plenty of gauges
Once you know exactly how hots its running you can go from there

i thought closed loop mode engaged at coolant temps over 104 degrees and once the o2 was hot enough, but i guess that will depend on the prom, not sure if they are different or not.
if you have a 180 stat and the fans are designed to turn on around 180-190 degrees and off at 170-180 degrees, then having a 195 will more than likely keep the fans on alot longer before the tstat ever opens up. NOt really gonna hurt anything i feel
