Hehe, more like a blind monkey with a big chisel and mallet. Just smooth those runners out

I started porting my plenum yesterday, and I have one comment: Summit porting supplies really suck. I ordered a 45 dollar porting and polishing kit from summit, all of the bits explode after about 30 seconds of use, 20 seconds of hard use.. the stone bits I picked up at a local hardware store just end up melting the aluminum and coating themselves in it, so they are no help. It took me six summit bits to take out the walls behind the throttle body on the plenum...lol

For aluminum, I've found that HSS cutters work very well and are durable if you don't get them too hot and start loading up the teeth. I didn't have any trouble porting my plenum and base with my little Dremel using these bits.

couple good things for porting aluminum...

a long reach die grinder (i got a snapon but they are pricey)

a snapon carbide burr (again also pricey but this one is well worth the money) use wd-40 on them and they wont load up with aluminum. i got mine from snapon but you can get them elsewhere too. they are great for large amounts of metal removal

grainger sells sandpaper cones and extended bits they work excellent on smoothing out the rough surfaces and you can reach all the way inside runners. i think www.grainger.com will get you there. i have one down the street from me so its no big deal. but they ship anywhere and sell them in larger quantity so it is nice. you can use a few of these quickly but they do an excellent job on a high speed die grinder and remove some material too if you use the rough grit ones.

anyway looks good, but cant you sharpen to inbetweens on the runners a bit? or were you not done or should you not do that? cuz i did it on my super ram setup.

my $.02

Depends on where you are talking about on the runners. If its on the base end, you want a taper to a sharp edge, if its on the plenum end, a rounded edge would be best.

Well, from what I understand the long runners are what make up your bottom end, so it really shouldn't affect your lowend.

I bought a carbide burr from a local hardware store for 10.00 bucks, keep lubricated with atf. With a slow grinding speed, and the alum. will just about come off with a wire brush. Only used 2 for the heads and intake, plenum.
