98 vortec into the 87 iroc

Well I put a 98 Z71 longblock into my Z with the stealthram for vortecs on . Just got her going did and feels real strong. Has way more pull in 3rd and 4th gear, or maybe its just because it sat for 2 years,I dunno. But anyway just wanted to check if anyway has a similiar set-up. Right now the car is running and idling good, a lil fast at start up but I think its programmed to do that. The 5-speed feels alright, no clutch slippage yet anyway. Just wanted some thoughts and opinions, basically all I did was go pick-up a fresh rebuild,98 Vortec longblock and threw on the stealthram intake and all the old parts that were on the 305 TPI Alrighty thnx guys

the vortec heads have pretty good flow & i've heard the stealthram is a good intake so you probably gained a little from it.
do you have a decent exhaust system on it?
a better cam than the stock vortec would have really woke it up.
look at the specs on what FAST355 did with a vortec here,

Ya it has headers running into three inch flowmaster, with duel tips. Put on LT1 injectors to go with the chip. Next on the list will definitely be a cam upgrade

Sounds pretty cool, do you have any pics of it? Did you keep the T-5? Or go with a tremec or something.

Re: 98 vortec into the 87 iroc

Ya I kept the T-5 in there for now, although I did blow the slave cylinder a few days ago. Kinda sux cause I put a used one in there to replace the bad one and the thing leaked out all the fluid when I went to bleed the line. Oh well the car is on down time till I buy a new unit. As for pics I will try get some posted on the garage thing. I did notice a big difference in third and fourth gear, strong pull all the way through. Only took it up to 4000 rpm, still on the second tank of fuel since the rebuild went in.

Re: 98 vortec into the 87 iroc

once you brake it in then youll really feel the difference, above 4000rpm is were the vortec heads and hsr intake will continue to make power were as the tpi will begin to fall on its face in stock trim... thats a shame you didnt put a cam in it cause changing it is a pain because of having to pull the oil pan and jacking the engine up unless your pulling it again..anyway nice upgrade.. so keep us posted ... thanks

Re: 98 vortec into the 87 iroc

Ya, I shoulda put a cam in while it was waitin to go in. I think I will buy the cam and some roller rockers, I already have a set of zz4 springs and either pull out later or start on another build. I also wanna put in a high volume oil pump in there, cause after she's all warmed up my pressure is about 20psi. Its through a autometer mechanical gauge so I know its accurate. On the first start its up between 40 - 50 but I just dont like the idle when the pressure is around 20. Thanx guys. Gonna do another oil change as I just burned 2 tanks of fuel and then gonna see what she has.
