AFR hydra-rev kit wears down engine.......

I want to put one on but the "experts" suggest its a track only mod. Reason is that the added pressure at the springs somewhat chokes or cuts oil lubrication to the engine. Not good for a daily driven vehicle. My 383 AFR Miniram engine is being put together and its going to be a daily duty car. The cam is an Isky 225/234 .505/.530 at 112. Is there some truth to this? Educate me.

I have never heard of such a problem. There really isn't much 'added' pressure from the rev kit, it is simply a set of springs that push on the lifter body to help control the weight of the lifter while allowing you to run a lighter valve spring to keep the lfter from getting collapsed. (simplification, and i'm sure you know this, but others reading it might not.) I reckon that you would still be running a little more pressure on the roller itself, but since it's a roller, i don't think it will hurt anything by way of increased friction/oil film breakdown at the cam. Maybe it wouldn't be a good idea for an engine you wanted to last 200k miles, but any engine that is spinning in rev kit range shouldn't have that goal anyway.

I've also heard that with the use of the hydra-rev kit, adding the extra spring pressure directly onto the lifters, you can use a lower spring pressure on the rocker side, and effectivly overall still achieve the same goal.

I've never heard of that. I've got the AFR kit on my car, and its a daily driver. No problems.

Great news. The guy who told me this has a Nova with a Big Block running solid lifters with .600 lift cam and a rev kit. May be in his case it would apply but by the overwhelming respose for the hydra rev it seems this does not apply. Thanks alot guys. I could always count on first hand experience of this site. Then my next question is where can I buy one besides AFR that might have it in stock right now?

Hey what RPM are we talking about? How much RPM increase do you get from the kit and about how much does it cost? Thanks,, Dave

Talk to Isky, they have a rev-kit and they invented it (rev-kits) back in the early 50s IIRC.

They're not designed to increase horsepower. What they do is help prevent valve float at higher RPMs, which as a result increases horsepower.

The Rev kit was mostly designed to prevent you from losing oil pressure should you toss a pushrod at high rpm. The springs and such will help the lifter stay in the bore should a pushrod break. (yep, personal experience.... can you say "bye bye engine...") The rev kit would have saved me a pretty penny.......
