hey guys what is a good cam to put in my buddies 86 iroc. it is a stock 305 with stock intake and heads, probably have headers and he already has a cat back. he is looking for a cam to give him good torque, but a little of a rumpity idle. what are some of your opinions?

Cosdiering he has THE WORST TPI cam ever, a Crane 2030 would be good. It is a 204/214 duration cam with .423/.446 lift. I've been modelling it on Dyno2000 and it along with some WP SR TQer 305 heads. Over 100 hp gained at 5000 rpm. But then again the stock cam only good to 3600-3700 rpm.

.350/.385 lift with 179/194 duration

No power past 3700 rpm. I have modeled engines on Dyno2000 and with a Crane 2030 cam and World SRT 305 heads, I would gain 100 hp at 5000 rpm. The stock peanut cam is THAT SORRY!

I like my SLP cam Since I have the 87 Block you need a slightly different grind but their part number is 51000 for your 85-86 Engine.

Duration: 258/264 Dur @.050 206/212 Lift 480/487 centerline 112

might want to also consider the SLP pt# for early blocks: 51004
Duration: 270/276 Dur. @ .050: 218/224 lift: 495/502 Centerline 114

I am delighted with my SLP cam.
