383 tpi iron heads

I just signed up on thirdgen.org recently, i have been comming and going through the forums for awhile and i decided to officially signup. well i have a question if anyone would like to give me some advice about the stock iron L98 heads. im currently working on building a mild 383 with a tpi setup with aims between 350-400 hp. i was just wondering if the iron heads would flow well enough for the larger displacement 383, maybe with pocket port work? Also of course i have low budget aims for this project as well .

For well flowing heads for a 383, you can't port the stock heads enough. I would recommend buying aluminum heads that have 2.08 intake and 1.60 exhaust. Thats what I have and make 470 horse. Works well. By all means you can port your stock heads, but you will not have anywhere near the power you should.

Re: 383 tpi iron heads

cool thanx for the feedback, i feared as much. i have one bare vortec head in awesome never used condition so i guess i'll just look for another one and have them ported. Then buy edelbrocks vortec tpi manifold and runners and go that route.
