383 tpi iron heads
383 tpi iron heads
I just signed up on thirdgen.org recently, i have been comming and going through the forums for awhile and i decided to officially signup. well i have a question if anyone would like to give me some advice about the stock iron L98 heads. im currently working on building a mild 383 with a tpi setup with aims between 350-400 hp. i was just wondering if the iron heads would flow well enough for the larger displacement 383, maybe with pocket port work? Also of course i have low budget aims for this project as well

For well flowing heads for a 383, you can't port the stock heads enough. I would recommend buying aluminum heads that have 2.08 intake and 1.60 exhaust. Thats what I have and make 470 horse. Works well. By all means you can port your stock heads, but you will not have anywhere near the power you should.

cool thanx for the feedback, i feared as much. i have one bare vortec head in awesome never used condition so i guess i'll just look for another one and have them ported. Then buy edelbrocks vortec tpi manifold and runners and go that route.
