I need to know if there are ANY visible differences between the 305 TPI and 350 TPI. I am trying to figure out the history of my Camaro, (Seeing somebody did lots of work to it) and now Im not even sure what motor it should have in it.
----------
BTW The car is an 85' but is supposed to have a 350 out of something else. Just don't know what, or if its even a 350. Since there weren't 350s available in 1985. So basically VINs don't tell me anything, and Im just not sure what might be original and what might be off what i believe to be a 87 Iroc donor car (hence where the motor might have came from and rear deck lid) Please give me as much info that would only be true if it were a 350 or 305. Thanks.

Re: Need Help!
The difference between TPI 305 and TPI 350 are the injectors. If you were to pop the hood and look at the engine you cant tell the difference between 305 and 350. But the block has a number on it on the passenger side it has 7 numbers on it write it down look the number up on mortec.com and it will tell you what it possibly came out of and what kind of engine it was when it was in that car. If you still have questions come back and ask.

Re: Need Help!
How would I find out if I have the 19 or the 22lb injectors that each of the blocks came with? But I did look real hard under the block today, and took some pictures. On the side of the block on each side, it says 305. Would that tell me anything?

Re: Need Help!
Here is the picture I took of the "305" number casting on the side of the block. This was on each side of the block between the bottom of the head, and the oil pan.

Re: Need Help!
I don't think that number really means anything. Heres a link to a picture of the number I'm thinking about https://www.thirdgen.org/forums/sout...lock-sale.html
Its the 2nd picture called a block number its at the back of the block where the trany bell housing bolts on to the block on top of the engine block. I was wrong about it being on the passenger side its on the drivers side. But i dont know if they changed that after 87. If it is off a 87 camaro it should say 5.7 above that number and that means 350 But just in case get the block number a look it up on mortec. It will be hard to see because of all the wires and stuff in the way but thats how you can tell.

Re: Need Help!
What type of valve covers does it have? Center or perimeter bolt?
An 87 350 should have the centerbolt style.

Valve covers are gray with perimeter style bolt up.

Re: Need Help!
Then it's not an 87. It's probably the stock 305 that came with the car, or just some generic 85 and earlier engine.
So many people sell these cars as a "350" or "vette engine" etc etc because it's not easy for most people to spot the differences.

You'll have to do like was suggested above and find the casting number to know for sure what you have.

Noticed you are from CT too... you should check out the club we have started. We're planning our first meet for later in May.
