TBI to TPI to Not Working
TBI to TPI to Not Working
Hey guys im new to thirdgen and love this place. after days of no running car i need some input. Here we go:
I have a 91 camaro rs that was TBI. I recently changed over to TPI. Conversion was a success and it was running. I then proceeded to change the cam and added 1.6:1 roller rockers. I then got the car started again. no problems with the break in except that it got really hot and had to shut it off after 25 minutes so i fixed the fan and got codes 22 and 43 (tps and knock sensor). A day later i have visitors over and the car will not start. I have since changed the kncok sensor but dont think the tps sensor works. Will the car start with a broken TPS sensor?? It is turning over and trying to fire but will not catch. Also when i switch the car to the on position the fuel pump runs for a few seconds then stops (normal) but then if i open the door it runs or if i turn my sigal on it runs. Anyone had this problem and what is it?????

Sounds like a ground wire is loose/missing, engine to body. Turn signals and doors apply grounds to make the lights work.

it will start and run w/o the TPS functioning properly
it definately sounds as if you have a short, time consuming but you have to find it!

Get a volt meter and start checking battery neg to body parts with the key on. Somewhere you will see volts, gnd to gnd and that is where the gnd wire is missing/loose. If turn signals on, volts will move/blink with the lights.
You could have cooked the ignition module, is the spark good?

Re: TBI to TPI to Not Working
Look over the last area you worked on before it quit, like the Fan. Something could be loose or pinched. You could have disturbed (unplugged) something while working on the cam/fan. A wire could be melted and shorting out, to the engine. Check all the connectors (unplug and replug).
