HELP !Take my foot off the gas and the car dies !1988 GTA 5.7

HELP !... My car started sputtering one day a couple weeks ago. It did it a couple times real quick then stopped. 10 more miles down the road the car stalls and dies at the red light as soon as I take my foot off the pedal. It cranks right back up but as soon as I take my foot off the pedal it will stall and die. The car has never had an idleing problem before,,, but now it will not stay cranked without my foot on the pedal a bit keeping it running.

I have let the car sit for two weeks.. It cranked up, idled by itself and made it one mile down the road before it started acting up like this again.

could this be some type of sensor ? what should I check first ?

help !
thanks

Are you getting a check engine light?

I had this problem in my 87 Z, turned out to be the TPS sensor.. it could be an amount of things causing it tho.. it could even be a pair of dirty injectors, or a bad fuel pressure regulator and or pump.

from my experience the TPS sensor always causes weird problems, mine randomly went out of range and my car kept throwing MAF codes. it also could quite possibly be your Idle Air Control Valve (IAC).

if you do end up testing the TPS and IAC here are better directions then the ones found in the technical articles section, I still dont know why no one has changed that article to this one instead..
