More than likely the modifications you've done to the exhaust system are affecting the 02 and egr, causing the check engine light to display. But, instead of guessing, you can get it scanned at most auto parts stores for free.

You can also use a paperclip to read the codes. There's a short article about it here: https://www.thirdgen.org/service-eng...ht-error-codes
Hope this helps.

For whatever its worth, my engine light kept coming on in my daily driver (Yukon) and the owner's manual said to check for a loose gas cap.
I did - it was loose - tightened it - the light went out in 60 seconds. Hasn't come on again in months.

As I suggested above, try the paperclip.
No need for a cigarette lighter, no tools needed, just get a paperclip (or a piece of wire). It doesn't get easier than that.
Once you know the code, the guess work is over and you won't have to run around your car anymore, loosening gas caps, opening and closing doors, topping off coolant or oil etc.
Try it, it only takes 2 minutes.

Mine flutters back in forth, it has a mind of it's own. I guess that's what happens when you get rid of the EGR and don't burn a chip.

Don't worry, you can't destroy your car that easily.
If you stick the paperclip in the wrong holes in the connector, you might blow a fuse or something. But that's about it.
If you simply follow the picture and insert the paperclip in the two rightmost holes in the top row of the ALDL connector, you'll be ready to read the codes by watching the CEL flash. Follow the article on how to count the flashes correctly.
Hope this helps.

No need to wait for the light to re-appear. The fault codes are stored in the ECM memory.
