Help a newbie with '92Trans Am
Hey everyone, this is my first post and im looking for some help..i just bought a 1992 trans am 350tpi from my friend..the best time he has run was a 14.5-14.4, its basically stock with a flowmaster exahust no cats and a direct clamp on K%N, I want to make it faster in the quarter mile and was thinking of cam, headers, fuel pressure regulator etc. but can someone recommend a mild cam that would work with the stock computer seeing as i dont have a MAF car? thats very much in advance...-mike

Welcome to the boards! Sounds like a good plan you have so far to make it faster. I haven't put my cam in yet, but the impression I'm getting so far from everyone here is that I should do my headers and exhaust before even thinking about the cam. Sorry that I don't have a reccomendation for the cam.

Welcome aboard. I too cant recommend a cam for you to buy. I would get everything else done first like porting all of the intake stuff and headers. Cams are pretty tough to get right but buy doing everything else first it may make it a little easier to pick a cam later. I would say do the headers first to open up your exhaust completely. Then go and port your plenum and maybe throw some SLP runners at it. Then get an AFPR to help feed it a little more fuel. That should get you started and make your car run a little better than it is now.
sorry, but with your speed density computer (90-92 models), a cam change with any more duration is pretty much going to have to have some computer reprogramming. only mass air flow computers (85-89) can get away with a cam change and no computer programming. id do like the others and you have said, fuel pressure reg., headers, port your intake or get a high flow aftermarket tpi intake, then move to heads and a cam with computer reprogramming to go along with these two. all of this together properly tuned should get you to high 12s. do a gear change after you do the heads and cam swap.
