Trying to chase a starting problem. '89 L98. Fires up, then dies a couple seconds later. Does this repeatedly. My laptop died so no scan data right now. Guesses? Getting new MAF relays on the way home tonight (man I wish I'd already done the MAP conversion) and will attempt to get another laptop borrowed.

 

any codes and are you getting fuel?

I didn't have time to grab codes; doing that when I get home. Yes it's getting fuel, as the engine starts and sounds normal for about 2 seconds, then dies.

I've tried the ARAP code (which used to work) and also gone back to the stock APYU with the same effect.

I hope to have my diagnostic tools back together tonight.

 

sounds like just your fuel 2 sec run is working. might want to see if you lose fuel pressure when this happens.

'twas as I thought. Swapped the MAF relays and all is well again. Gotta get my laptop cable working tonight so I can start tuning!

check to see if you are getting an injector pulse. if the fuel pump energizes for the primary
2sec and you start, runs and dies. check the
pulse signal to injectors. sounds too close
to the VATS signal diagnosis. possible oil
pressure switch open to fuel pump relay.

 

I must know how you got your laptop to scan data! I've been trying but after 20 tries I'm starting to give up. Help Me!
