406 w/LT1 intake

Im in the process of building my 406 for my 1994 z-71. Im converting over to a port style injection and I was orignially going to run a highly modified TPI setup... long story short change of plans, read too much about the TPI not being able to feed a healthy 400. Well Im getting my LT1 intake modified for the distributor, bolt pattern, coolant lines, etc and I wanted to know peoples opinions on the flow of these intakes. I understand they have ALOT shorter run and ALOT more flow capabilities than a TPI setup and im going with Dark Pro 1 heads ontop of this motor. With a 1000cfm monoblade throttle body and 36lb injectors would that be a reasonable combo? maybe bigger injectors? Im going to have a pretty healthy cam also, .560 lift, 260 duration.

Re: 406 w/LT1 intake

Im still working on figuring out what injector size im going to need but Im going .30 over w/forged pistons, 64cc heads ~10:1 compression, comp cams LT1 268XFI cam, with gasket matched heads and intake w/ 1300cfm AS&M TB. Would I be better off running 42lb injectors incase I wanna run more air later down the road? I just dont want TOO big of injectors and not be able to tune the motor..... Thats why I come to you TPI guys.

Re: 406 w/LT1 intake

So I guess nobody has ever ran a setup close to this? I want to run a 400 no matter what and I know it would take alot of work to make a TPI setup on it. Any Ideas??

Re: 406 w/LT1 intake

I am running a LT1 intake on my 1986 corvette with a 406 and it runs very well. I am using 30 LB injectors but I believe your 36 LB injectors will work well, and allow room for future changes.

My 406 with the 30 lb injectors is roughly supporting 525 HP.

Re: 406 w/LT1 intake

These are the specifications on my 406 in the corvette with the LT1 intake.

1986 Coupe, auto, 3.45 gears, 1973 406, 11.5 to 1 compression, SLP cold air, gutted MAS, 58 MM throttle body, ported plenium, LT1 intake, Ported 23 degree Trick Flow Heads, ZZX cam, TPIS headers, TCI 3000 stall, 3" duel exhaust, Cheap and easy free mods, custom chip, daily driver
RWHP 427 @ 6500, RWTQ 437 FTLBS @ 2900

Best run
60 ft = 1.536
1/8 = 7.116 @ 95.874
1/4 = 11.185 @ 121.04

I never had it on an engine dyno but I have had it on a chassis dyno many times. Using chassis dyno and drag strip numbers is how I arrived at the approximate 525 engine HP.

Re: 406 w/LT1 intake

Sounds about what im going with, im sticking around 10:1 compression so I can run pump gas My cam is slightly larger with less duration so I should seriously be pumping some bottom end. That sounds like a great setup! Im hoping for something close to that but with less compression. I hope mine runs as good as yours. How did you run your coolant lines? Just the ones at the rear or are you using the "steam lines" that people are starting to run at the front of the intake too? I saw alot of people over on the corvetteforums are doing that.

Do you just have a picture of your intake before it was installed in the car?

Re: 406 w/LT1 intake

I am running the water lines at the front of the intake, I found some fittings that clear my throttle linkage so I kept the conventional water path.

Re: 406 w/LT1 intake

That sounds like the way to go, but I dont know how I could clear the lines. What kind of fittings did you use and where did you get them?
