Metal chips?

Hey guys, I started to pull my block apart because the engine had a knock when it would rev around 1500 or so and it didnt want to rev at all above 3000. The cylinder walls looked mint still had the cross hairs from being honed, and didnt see any metal chips until I pulled the cam. When I slid it out I noticed some chips on one of the lobes the bearing rides on. Sounds like the cam bearing was causing my knocking and power loss?
