I am gonna look seriously into this, and if this setup will flow good to 5400rpm with few inches cut out, then i might stay TPI and not get a superram.
So how much can you expect on stock L98 with open element filters and full exhaust? 15-20hp peak, and about 500rpms higher rpm peak? That sounds good to me.

I know this thread is really really old but, has anybody actually done this to a 305? Do you think this would work well on mine?

After reading this post last summer, I tried it. The car ran too rich down bottom and to lean uptop. It lost a 10th, I put the stock one back on

I should add... if you saw the y-pipe, you would know why the exhaust sucks. Thats getting fixed in the next month or so.
I have info on my website about the car, at http://home.earthlink.net/~madmax0

very old thead....but the info is great!! im runnin a edelbrock base and ported slp runners....my guestion is, would i get close to the same info if i cut say 2.5" out of the base side of the slp runnin rather then cuttin into the base? its kind of the same idea? i just dont want to mess with the base to much but i could mess with the slp runner some more!! this is what i have so far!

holy **** batman, you don't screw around do you don lol.
very nice
very innovative ideas btw madmax, i'm definetly going to do this to myl b9 5 speed car come spring when i throw a cam in it, along with port matching the intake and some other mild mild porting.

We've been running that setup in our cars (mine and Dyno Don's) for a couple years now. He picked up 2 tenths and a MPH in the 1/4 mile, as well as 10 HP at 600 RPMs higher (5500). My car however didnt show as much gains, only 6 HP at 500 RPMs higher (5300). However, the whole power band was shifted up higher, with the TQ peak at 4100 instead of 3200 RPMs.
We just discovered this year the reason why we didnt get as much gain as we thought. The TPI base has a severe restriction where it enters the head by the fuel injectors. Search out my post about "TPI visual runners" or something like that.

Holley Stealth Rams can be had cheap used now, and will support peak HP up to like 7000 rpms, without a noticeable loss of low end. Much easier and also overcomes the TPI's plenum being too small...

Not really. Right now its sitting around unused because I HAD to swap in an Edelbrock. Something about 1206 Fel Pro sized ports and the stock base...
I've been contemplating having it welded up so I can at least cover the port on the head and see what its got. I'm kinda curious especially since I have some better heads and a bigger cam than before. But right now I just dont have the time, too many other things going on.
