MAF

I have an 1985 TPI 305. My question is can I run my camaro without out the MAF? I have removed it before and the Check Engine light never came on, My reason for removing the MAF is to install an K&N Cone Filter or any other suggestions for cooler air? Also thanks to all who reply.

Re: MAF

If it didn't make a difference when you unhooked it you have a problem. Mine runs like hell without it.

Re: MAF

Your car will never go into closed loop and run rich as hell. Not a good idea so you can just run an air filter that sucks in hot air anyways.

Re: MAF

Do a search on TGO on "mafless" that way you do not have to reinvent the wheel.

Re: MAF

I run a 85 firebird engine in my 85 monte ss. When my maf is unhooked my engine runs very rough. Looks like a diesel running lots of black smoke.

Re: MAF

Well my first question would be...WHY do you want to run without the sensor?? Do you have the elusive code #36?? It is always best to have that sensor in use and operating. The mass air flow will feedback to the computer the amount of air being passed through then the ecu decides how much fuel to throw to the injectors. You will have decreased fuel eco (like it matters) but the car will noticibly run rough...the engine is drowning in fuel.

I got so sick of the MAF...over the winter I did the MAP sensor conversion....and damn glad I did!!
