Engine died - will not restart - input needed
91 350 TPI / 700R4 in an 88 YJ.
Fresh engine, all new sensors, EGR, distributor (including cap, rotor, module), wires...etc etc
The guy that did the original installation some years back used a small fuse block and a modified blade fuse with the correct resistor soldered on for VATS.
Started her up the other day, started fine, loaded some things while it was warming up a few minutes, hopped in and get about 5 blocks from the house, let off the accelerator to start slowing for a stop sign and it just quits... like the previously mentioned VATS fuse/resistor fell out (which has happened before, it's secured now). Fuel pump and filter is new and working...at least I can hear it.
Had to tow it home. Will not restart. Now.. I have not had the chance to check fuel pressure, and spark etc yet but I did pull the codes real quick last night. Got the normal code 12 and then a 32. The smog equipment is off but I retained the EGR...which only has a few hundred miles on it. Don't see any loose wires, etc. But I don't see where an EGR failure would cause it to quit and then not restart. Turns over fine...plenty of battery.
I'll start chasing the normal stuff this week, fuel pressure, sensors, spark, etc but I was just curious if anyone had run in to these sets of circumstances before?
Pretty much everything under the hood is new.

Re: Engine died - will not restart - input needed
Found the problem. While messing with distributors just prior to this happening, I guess I bent the vacuum line from the MAP to the fuel pressure regulator, it had a split on the boot where it slides over the regulator and so I assume it wasn't pulling any vacuum. Put a few wraps of electrical tape, until I can buy a new one, and it fired right up. No code light is lit up on the dash now either.
It's a real pain to see...had to really get back there under the plenum to see it.
Guess that's why it felt like it ran out of fuel...
