LT1 intake & Vorech heads
I was reading here where someone took a stock LT1 intake, ploped it on his L98 Engine, but he had to drill a hole in the back for the distributor, rework the bolt holes for his heads. etc etc...
A lot of folks here seem to mention that the LT1 has reverse flow cooling, I am not sure about the implications of that since I do not think the engine would care a whole lot about the direction of the water flow. Since that is the case I am wondering the following:
Does anyone know if the Vortech heads use the same bolt pattern as the LT1 intake manifold? Put another way: would an LT1 intake bolt up to Vortech heads?

Nope, go to the chevy dealership and ask for some LT1 and vortec intake gaskets, neither bolt holes nor ports line up. Would have been so cool if they did though, for $1000 buck you could have great heads and intake, instead of $2500 for AFRs and miniram or something.
As for reverse cooling it doesn't mean it just flows backward, it takes a different path. LT1s don't have the water neck comming off the intake like our blocks, thiers in on the water pump.
vortec head:
LT1 head:
L98 head:
note the different bolt holes on the vortec and the lack of water passages on the LT1. Hope that helps.

Yes it can be done and its not hard to do if you are willing to adapt that manifold to the already posted intsrutions. The only other thing you have to do is find a good welder and build up the intake ports then port them to a set of vortec gaskets drilling the center holes in the vortec heads is no big deal most places you buy the heads from will do it for you.when the vortec heads first came out I did this all the time for the tpi guys so if your will to do the changes to the manifold to make it work on a l98 then do a little more work and adapt it to the vortec heads I use to charge the tpi guys 150 to mode their base for them I did make a lot off of every one I did becouse I did the welding and porting but had to have a machine shop reserfice the base on the intake port side and the machine shop charged me 55 for that 35 to drill the center bolt holes out to mach the haeads.so if you can weld alumminam or know some one that does you can adapt it for the cost to reserfice the intake the bolt holes you could do your self but a machine shop does a great gob when they did it no washers are needed. If I confused you on this let me know and I will try to get some pics of this mod for you then you can just ad that step to the convertion proccess and be good to go I eveen thought abooght it after I seen the post I have fast burn heads on my car but I started a group purches on the sdpc vortec tpi base and im not going to back out of it.Im gooing to compair the modified stock tpi base to the sdpc vortec base and see what gains I get on the dino.I would hate to spend 400 for that change and then another for 300 for a change to the lt1 plus my slp runners and every other bolt on to the stock tpi.
