NON-EGR HEADS

I bought a set of edelbrock performer rpm 6073 heads and after pulling them out of the box i realized that they do not have the egr passages in them. So my question is how hard will it be to make my car pass emissions with these heads or should i just go exchange them for heads with the passages (6075). I will also be running the ZZ4 cam. Any tuning suggestions for passing the sniffer would be great. Thanx.

You have 4 options here.

1) ignore the EGR. If you're in a state that tests the EGR, you can't do this

2) drill holes for the EGR in your heads. This may or may not work, depending on the head casting. An expensive risk to take

3) swap the heads. Possibly expensive

4) swap intake bases for one that has a corvette-style EGR port and cobble something together from your exhaust

Thanx for the responce but my question was, could I pass the sniffer without the egr passages in the heads. Cause up here in B.C. (canada) we have to go through aircare.
And how do I tune the car to pass.

( all the other emissions equipment will be in place. For now anyways .

Yes, you can easily pass emissions w/out the EGR, assuming they don't perform a visual inspection. I passed the harder IM240 "treadmill" test this past February with my nearly-stock 305 with the EGR disconnected (forgot to reconnect it after running at the track), no AIR pump, coated headers, and a 160-degree 'stat. As far as tuning the car to pass, just make sure the plugs and O2 sensor are fairly new (less than 30k miles) and the engine is warmed up sufficiently.

Yes, you can easily pass emissions w/out the EGR....

No problems passing Arizona emissions since installing my Corvette aluminum heads (with no EGR passageways).

....assuming they don't perform a visual inspection.

As long as you install the EGR back onto the intake manifold, you'll be okay. I speak from experience here as this is exactly what I've done. I don't think any state will ask you to remove your intake manifold, which is the only way I know of to conclusively tell whether a head has EGR passageways...
