Vortec heads / new TPI base-- Anyone have documented power results in yet??
Vortec heads / new TPI base-- Anyone have documented power results in yet??
I'm fired up about buying Vortec heads and the Scoggin Dickey base right away, but I won't take their word for it about the power claims. They state 300 flywheel hp on a totally stock runner/plenum/throttle body/computer setup, and 375 hp with cam, injectors, and roller rockers. Any guinea pigs yet? Let's figure out what cam setups will max this combo out!

If you take and put the stock base on an engine with vortec heads and look at the edge of the intake you will still see the ports of the vortec heads they are abought an 1/8 longer then the base will even cover so the heads being drilled for the bolt patern is not the big probem if you use a raceing high $$$$ intake for carbs you usaly do not have this problem the reason being that they are desined for heads that have had major porting and have a thicker seal area around the top of the port so their is plenty to shave off to make them match the heads.but with the stock or even an aftermarket tpi base you do not have this option the after market base will cover the ports but their is not enough meat around the top of the port to port match it to the heads so if you used this base even ported out as thin as you felt safe you would still reduce the size of the port going in to the head and this would restriced the flow of air.when I modify a stock or after market base to work with vortec heads I have to add 1/2 in around the top of the ports on a stock intake I will port past the origanal outer edge to match up the ports.
