ram air induction
ram air induction
Okay... I don't know if this is the right forum for this, but has anyone modified their intake by porting the air from the fog lights up to the air filter inlets. I have a 1987 IROC with K&N filters, and have already cut out those plastic "traps" below the filters... I guess those are for blocking massive debris entry? Or maybe a monsoon? Anyway, feedback on this? I saw an article on this in mods here at third gen, but has anyone got some practical experience on this? Thanks!
Been there, done that, removed it. You have already done the important part. Ducting the air up to your cut-outs really only takes effect at higher speeds.... At those same speeds, the air is being pushed right at your filters by your air dam below anyway (assuming it is in good shape and not bent backwards).
I found that there really were no measurable gains in the quarter, and I also found that there was a disadvantage because any kind of ducting you can come up with does block airflow from the radiator. A bad thing in summer heat.

I've done it, and I haven't noticed any problems with cooling as far as air being blocked off to the rad from the fog light ports. I don't really think that the rad is affected at all.. I mean, the RS has a grill that blocks off the fog light ports, and our cars do have the option of factory fog lights that also block off the rad from that area.
Go ahead and do it..even if it's only functional at higher speeds, every little bit counts.

OK... got the ducting... I also used a disc cutter to remove those traps, and I'll hook it up today.... I NEVER have a problem with cooling, due to a rheostat controlled fan switch with a probe into the radiator hose... I'll post a follow up.
