I have a 1985 iroc with the tpi motor. It seems everytime im going slow or start to break i get the cheek engine lite to come on. the code is 34 and 24, I have replaced the mass air and no change. the car has the smog taking off so i dont know if that will cause anything.Also the speedo cable broke so im not to sure about that either if that will cause anything. If anyone can give me some ides i will be thankful

Repair the speedo cable and the '24' will go away.

Check the MAF power relay on the back of the ECM (on 1985 TPIs) and you might find the problem.

You also need to make sure the intake system is sealed. No leaks in the ductwork, no cracks in the plastic air boxes (especially at the seams), and you absolutely cannot use a breather-type oil filler cap - it allows unmetered air through the PCV system and into the TB.

You should also make sure the TPS is set correctly. Too high a setting can cause a '34'.
