car turns over but will not start !!
ok i swapped the 305 in my 89 out for the engine in my sig, while also adding the 6 speed. when i pulled out the 305 it was running just fine. i hooked everything up electronically and set it to TDC, brand new plugs, double checked firing order on cap. i have fuel, spark, and compression...now why wont it run? how much should it be advanced/retarded? all it does is trun over. it did back fire once when i had it really retarded but nothing else. i have asked a lot of people that i know at shops and no one seems to be able to help so far. can you?

Have you checked the distributor to see if it's off a tooth or maybe even 180 degrees out? Had that problem with a rebuilt motor once. Also, are you sure the injectors are firing, what is your fuel pressure? Still, it sounds like distributor is problem.
Good Luck,

yes i have checked to see if its 180 out, it wasnt. yes theinjectors are firing because when i double checked the compression stroke the #1 plug has gas on it. fuel pressure is about 50 psi or so. the distributor is sitting down on the intake like it is suppose to be and i turned the cap to point #1 plug wire at TDC.
sc85z,
id consult the GM service manual for a:
cranks, no start flow chart. youve covered
most of the primary bases.
TPS voltage 2.5v or less.. flood condition
CTS -40* making the ECM think is -40* and
plastering the cylinder with fuel.
turn the FP down to 38# once it starts
turn it up.

well i changed the CTS and that wasnt it. i went ahead and checked the distributor one more time and it is still potining to TDC when i turn it over to the compress stroke on #1 cyl. this is by far the most trouble i have ever had getting my car to start, even when the motor was "brand new" it wasnt this hard. i have no clue what to do about this.
