Fuel Pressure Question

I have a question about what fuel pressure the factory pump should be able to sustain. I built an adjustable regulator for my 92, I set the pressure at 50 and after 10-15 miles the pump started screaming and the car shut off. Not having any tools, I limped the car home and reajusted it back to stock and all is well for now. I am assuming the pump is just old and not able to keep up. Secondly what aftermarket in tank fuel pumps are you guys using? Are any of them more reliable then the next? If I am changing it I might as well upgrade it. Thanks for any feed back you might offer. I posted this in two forums, I was not sure which to post it in. Sorry.

Joe

hmmm, well the stock pump shouldn't be freaking out over 50 psi. I was running my 305 w/ 56psi for better than half a year and it never complained once, even w/ over 90k on it.
As for a replacement, the wal bro pumps have even highly regarded for years in these parts.

Thanks guys. After putting a few miles on it with the pressure back to stock it is lightly acting up. It is hard to start now, the pressure takes a longer to build on the gauge and it has lost power up top. I guess the extra pressure just pushed the pump over the edge and its on its last leg. I am going to order the 255, hell its only a few bucks more them a AC replacement. Guys thanks for the feed back, if you have any ignition questions feel free to ask.
