cam selection

I am building a 89 305 tpi engine and I am having trouble selecting a cam. I'm interested in the crane power max 2030

Degrees Advertised Duration Int./Exh.
260 270
Degree Lobe Separation 116

Gross Lift Int./Exh.
.429 .452

Is this too much or too little cam for my car and if so what should I go with?

My mods are gasket matched runners, intake manifold, and plenum (ridges for egr removed and throttle bores enlarged),
afpr
bbk 52mm tb
msd distributor and coil
s/r torquer 305 heads
1.5 roller rockers
the car is a 5spd and has a 3.08 rear end
the car must also pass air care

The TPI system makes peak stock HP @ 4400 for a 305. That will of course change with a 350, but the GM info says it doesn't. Anyway, the more accurate way to guage a cam profileis by the duration @ 0.050". The advertised dur. will vary to the .050", dependig on the cam style, ie. roller/solid/hydraulic flat etc. For a 305 I think you wouldn't want to go beyond 212 @ 0.050".I have heard and read that the S/R Torquer heads are not all that great, so investigate that a little more. Also, to complement the TPI's low RPM HP, use 1.6:1 rockers, or a cam with more lift. That will give you more torque, using the same duration cam. The 52mm throttle body I think is a poor choice for a 305. It is marginal in a stock 350. The 52 just won't give good throttle response at throttled conditions. The stock 48mm is just fine. You can use the saved money on getting a 3.42 rear ratio. That will be a great e.t. increase, as well as being easier on the clutch and driveline. Good luck, Arthur.
