Fuel injectors gone bad

I have a 91 z28, 305 tpi , 55k and in in mint shape. Last yesr I had one fuel injector replaced. This summer it started running rich again and had code read and injectors ohm tested. Found 3 more injectors are bad.
Is this a common problem with these TPI systems? Where can I get the least expensive injectors? Should i get used ones from the wreckers? Your advice would be appreciated.

Just finished a 350TPI swap in to my car. Rebuilt the whole motor to find 4 bad injectors. I have heard that the grey injectors(rochester I think) go bad pretty often. Just got 8 new ones so I didn't have to mess with them again. I went to www.gmpartsdirect.com, part number 17112285 for the 350, not sure of the part number for 305, priced them there and had the local gm dealer price match, minus shipping and handeling. If they won't match the price, gmpartsdirect I think is around $650 for a complete set, where the gm dealer will be about $1000. Don't know about salvage yards. Best of luck to you.

Why pay 650 for a set when you can pay 200 and get Accell injectors that will work just as good ?? Go to www.summitracing.com and order a set of 19pound Accell injectors for under 200 bones.

I just put in a set of twenty four pounders in my 5.7 and they run great, I bought them from Chuck Leeper @ cody motorsports in Lawrenceville Ga. He is a super nice guy and has better prices than summit, and he flows them for you and sends the flow sheet with it... b.t.w. they are accel's Tel. # 770-995-1106.

I too have a bad injector(s) and have heard a lot of good things about Ford SVT injectors. They fit perfectly in that the connectors are the same and they are cheap ($280). I have heard bad things about Accel's so I'm going SVT's. You can get them from any Ford parts department.

My bad, Ford SVO injectors. I must have had those patheticly slow SVT Lightning F150's on my mind. "Speed kills, buy a Ford live forever"

Trickle, I'd rather race a new Mustang than a new Lightning. They are pretty quick. I saw one run consistent 14.0's this year. The older ones do suck though.
Just be aware that Ford's 19# injectors were rated at a lower psi (37 psi I think) than GM's 19# (43 psi) so they will flow a little more. Should be alright though.

Oops, youhave a 350. SVO jumps from 19 to 24#. Thats why I went with Accel (23#). I believe they are rated at the same psi as gm's. Accel also makes a 21# too.

Similar experience.

I just replaced two 19lb injectors for a '91 305. Low miles as well, about 45k. The car sat in a garage for 3 years before I bought it and sure enough the shielding on the injectors had begun disintegrating. My number 2 and 4 injectors were reading 5 ohms resistance and the car idled like garbage. Worked well at WOT which confused the local mechanics.

Along the way I discovered that the Multec style GM/Rochester injectors of '89-'90 vintage are pretty much guaranteed to die because of their design. Apparently the fuel eats the insulating material on the windings. Idiots. What kind of design is that ?

So I bought 8 used ones for $50 from the classifieds at 3rd gen and am using them as spares. Seems I'll be needing them.

RP.

The accel injectors are made by Bosch. Bosch is a well reputed manufacturer and have been in the fuel injection buisiness a long time. I would buy a set out of summit for around 200, just like the guy said earlier. By the way, I run bosch 24 lbs. in my 350 and never had any problems.

I don't know anything about fuel injectors. What range of resistance should they be in? How do I know if they go bad? Is it really obvious like palric's experience with the car idling badly?
