R these headers anygood?

I am on a budget and lookin to open up the power on my car. I am planning a new cam and exhaust, but the headers are where I am stuck. Most think hte SLP are the best, but a bit pricey. The edelbrock are the ones I am looking at now, but also saw cheaper Hedman headers and Dynomax headers. R these other ones anygood, or does the cheaper cost reflect the quality?

Of course it effects quality. Just get the cheap ones if you cant afford the best ones right now. Everyone wants the best, but be realistic and get what you can now and save up for later if you cant wait til you have the money for the best.

Do a search in the exhaust forum there are thousands of post about headers. From what I have seen, the majority of people think SLP are the best, followed by edelbrock. I have also heard good things about the Hooker system. Whatever you buy just make sure that it includes a Y-pipe. The cost of fabricating one can be pretty high.

From: pgh,pa,
ok i just put some dynomax shorties on my car, and the cost me $100, custom Y-pipe cost me another $50 so total was $150,also flowtech sells headers for $115 and the Y-pipe 4 another $80 so that will run you
about $200 i would go with the flowtechs if u dont want to have to have your y-pipe modified or a new one made, I am very pleased with my dynomax headers tho , eventually i will get better ones when the 406 is done, but for now they work very nicely on my 305, and the fit was perfect didnt have to bust out the hammer at all. lol
as far as the quality difference between the flowtechs and the dynomaxs, they are alost identical, i think the flowtech y-pipe may even work on the dynomax headers, but i havent tried it yet.
and they both have 1 1/2 in primaries and 2 1/2 in collectors.
if you have any more questions post them here or feel free to e-mail me, hope i could help.

I just put the Headman headers on my car. Headers cost me $100 and the matching Y-pipe was another $100. The headers fit tight.. as do most headers I'm sure. I also had to very slightly dent the passenger side head to clearance it for the starter... I have a two piece rear block with the larger starter, you may not have to do this with the one piece rear blocks with the smaller starter. The header still touches the bolt on the side of the starter solenoid which I know is going to cause future problems. I'm probably looking at having to get the remote solenoid by Mr. Gasket. I haven't hooked up the Y-pipe yet so I can't say anything about that but I sure as hell hope it a direct bolt up.

4 Wheel Disc Brakes
9 bolt Borg Warner Rear (2.77's....oh joy) :P
6" rods, approx. 9.7:1 Compression, Stock TPI (soon to be ported), 24#/hr LTI injectors (cleaned and flowmatched by Cruizin Performance), Hedman Shorty Headers, 3" exhaust with 80 series flowmaster, SBC 993 heads completely redone and modified for 1.6 RR, 1.52 RR (for now), Comp Cams XE262-14 TPI Cam, Holley AFPR, TPIS airfoil, MSD wires, MSD 6-AL Ignition, Hypertech 53,000 volt coil.

Track times to come.

yep i got the cheep flowtechs on my 305 right now. the fit was not bad and they have been on their for a year and still look decent. i know their not the best but they are better than the stock manifolds.
