switching to TPI and have some wiring questions

hi, i'm swaping TPI into my 84 z-28 which is an LG4. i'm having some problems with the wiring. i bought an 88 tpi setup, and bought a wiring harness through the classifides. the distributer i'm using has a remote coil, and the cap has 2 plugs in it. a 2 wire plug and a 4 wire plug(?), but i only have the 4 wire plug in the wiring harness. would i be better off uning my LG4 distributer, that has the coil in the cap? also, it seems that i have a ton of extra plugs that i can't find a home for. does anyone have any good pics of their tpi engine compartment that i could look at? i need to know where all this stuff goes. thanks for all the help.

If I recall, the two wire plug on the distributor goes to the remote coil. Just a +12 and - 12. Your remote coil should have two plugs, each with 2 prongs. Each plug has a pink (+12) and a white (tach signal).

Head out to the wrecker and look for a GM with a remote coil. Many FWD 2.8L cars had them. Same coil. Same 2 prong plug.

As to your question about the rest of the harness ... lots of plugs yes there are. Most have a home. Some you may not use. I swapped a 1986 setup into a vehicle that never had it. I ended up with a few unnecessary connections. I just laid the harness on the groun as it would have been in the engine bay and figured out what was there.

If you have a connector that you don't know what it is for, try to describe it and the color of wires going to it. A digitial camera would help too.

Mark.

some of the wires that you areen't going to be using on the new harness are the smog pump wires, fan connector, it's a large 5 prong wide connector(since your fan contol is not part of the old ECM harness).

Hey man,

The wire your missing connects into another connector. Its only like 4 inches long, and you prolly didn't get it with your harness.

How far is wareham from lawrence?? I can make you the connector if you need. My shop is in lawrence.

ok, i went to the boneyard yesterday and picked up a stock coil and the plug that goes to the distributer. i also noticed some of the plugs i was worried about go to steel ac lines along the frame rail, don't need to worry about thoes, no A/C. i also picked up the windsheild wiper motor. the long skinn blue plug goes into there, i guess? what i'm worried about are the wiires that go to the fuel pump. what side of the harness are they on and what color are they? i think their orange, but not sure. i'm going with and aftermarket inline pump so i can't use the stock connector.
